Baked sweet potato chips are so tasty and a great side for a variety of meals. They are easy and healthy too!

Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite side dishes or even as the base for a main meal like a baked potato bar! Besides the amazing flavor, they are full of vitamin A, and are rich in fiber and antioxidants. While some people may not like the sweet and savory taste of sweet potatoes try making them these served with a side of avocado oil mayo and sriracha sauce and see if you can’t change their mind!
These sweet potato chips are baked so the nutrients are more available than if they were fried. There is just enough oil added to make them crispy but not to overload them with grease. Bake them according to your preference as to wether you like them softer or more crisp and you will have a delicious and easy side that you’ll be coming back to again and again!
Why you’ll love baked sweet potato chips
- They are super easy! – Only taking a few minutes of prep time these are a super easy side or snack that can be thrown together quickly.
- Healthy and nutritious! – You or your children can snack on these without having to think about unhealthy ingredients.
- Budget friendly! – Sweet potatoes are cheap especially when compared to many other sides and snacks at the grocery store.
- Little ones can help! – My toddler loves helping in the kitchen whether its putting peels into a bucket to be thrown away, washing vegetables, or sprinkling seasoning on the food we’re making. Children love to be involved in whatever mama is doing and this recipe has several things they can help with!
What to serve with baked sweet potato chips
Some of my favorite meals to serve these with are things like balsamic meatballs, grilled steaks, and burger/steak bowls. Basically any meal where you need the side of a carb these will fill that space perfectly! The leftovers are also great as a snack, especially for hungry toddlers!
You can also serve them alongside burgers, sandwiches, or wraps.
These taste great just by themselves but adding a dip is also so yummy! We love dipping them in garlic mayo, sriracha mayo, basil mayo, or homemade ranch. We love mayo around here as its so versatile and is actually healthy and full of good fats if made with high quality oil such as avocado oil.
To peel or not to peel
Really it comes down to personal preference on wether you like the peel or not. If your sweet potatoes are past their prime and they’re just needing to be used up then I would go ahead and peel them. However the peels contain a significant amount of vitamins and fiber so if you don’t mind the peel then you’ll be getting more nutritional benefits from leaving it on. If you bake the sweet potatoes long enough the peel will soften and will only add to the flavor of the sweet potato chips.
All you need is 3 simple ingredients!
Sweet potatoes, oil, and salt!

Ingredients for baked sweet potato chips
- Sweet potatoes – I usually plan for about 1 per person. You can use either yams (the orange ones) or white sweet potatoes or a mixture of both for more colorful dish! I prefer the orange ones.
- Oil – Olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil will all work well for these. If using coconut oil it works best to melt it down first.

Baked Sweet Potato Chips
Baked sweet potato chips are so tasty and a great side for a variety of meals. They are easy and healthy too!
Ingredients
- sweet potatoes
- oil - olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil
- salt
Instructions
1. Wash the sweet potatoes well. If I'm peeling them I skip this step. Preheat oven to 400°.
2. Using a sharp knife slice the potatoes into thin rounds. Or you can use a mandolin if you have one.
3. Place them in a container or bowl, preferably with a lid, and drizzle with oil.
4. Sprinkle on the salt, amount depending on preference. Stir with a spoon or place the lid on and shake the bowl, until all the potatoes are thinly coated in oil. Add more oil if needed.
5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the potatoes out evenly on the baking sheet. The less stacked they are the better as they will crisp up more. Bake for 20-25 minutes turning halfway through. When they are soft and start to turn crisp they are done.
