We love burgers! Especially in the summer! While burgers are absolutely delicious cooked on a grill what is a person to do if they don’t have one? I used to cook them in a skillet but ended up having to use extra coconut oil to keep them from sticking to the pan and also a huge mess at the end of it all from the grease splattering everywhere. Plus with only a small skillet I had to cook one at a time so it took forever…I thought there has to be a way to do this that is more enjoyable and faster.

That’s when I discovered that the oven works amazing for this! It’s super easy, quick, and no mess! They always turn out super moist without having to add any extra liquid. The great thing about it too is that while the burgers are cooking you can use that time to slice your tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and any other toppings you may like, without giving any attention to the burgers.
I like to serve these on homemade sourdough hamburger buns piled high with all the things. Have all your fix-ins sliced and in bowls or on small plates to make assembling the burgers easy for everyone. This is truly a simple meal that is healthy and nutritious when paired with the right sides and condiments.
Can I freeze burgers?
Yes you absolutely can! Form the patties and place squares of parchment paper between them to keep them from sticking to each other. Don’t stack more than 3 high. Place in a freezer bag and seal. Put the bag on a flat surface in your freezer until the patties have frozen through.
To reheat straight from frozen, preheat your oven to 400°. Place them on a baking sheet and cook as normal but add a couple extra minutes to account for them being frozen. Check the center for pink to make sure they’ve cooked through before consuming.

Ingredients:
- Ground beef (1 lb. or enough to feed your family) – I usually just make 1 lb. as there are only three of us right now and we still have leftovers. I find that 1 lb. makes about 4 burgers so plan accordingly as to how many people you’re feeding.
- Salt – a must have for flavor
- Black pepper – for seasoning and slight spice
- Garlic powder – this makes them so yummy!
Topping Ideas for Burgers…
- Cheese – (regular or dairy-free if you prefer. If doing dairy-free, I have found that both the Daiya and Radd brands melt wonderfully and taste really good.
- Jalapeños – sliced. We love to put these on for spice!
- Mayo – we make our own.
- Ketchup – we get the organic one to avoid the high fructose corn syrup
- Mustard – just plain ol’ yellow mustard. Or go for dijon or maple if you like that sort of thing.
- Bbq sauce – sometimes we add this, sometimes not
- Onions – sliced. Red onions are our favorite!
- Tomatoes – sliced
- Lettuce – romaine or whatever you prefer
- Pickles – sweet or spicy! We love homemade pickles on our burgers.
- Mushrooms – these are amazing on burgers if sautéed in oil or butter first.
Tools You May Need:
Baking sheet – 9×13 or larger works best
Parchment paper– I like to use unbleached parchment paper whenever possible
Knife – for slicing veggies
Cutting board – for slicing veggies on

How to Cook Burgers in the Oven

Super easy with little mess, this is a great alternative to cooking burgers if you don't own a grill and don't want to have the mess of cooking in a skillet!
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- salt
- black pepper
- garlic powder
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°. Place a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Divide the ground beef into 4 balls then flatten each ball into a patty. I like to make them fairly large and thin as they tend to shrink quite a lot while cooking.
2. Season generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Flip them over and season the other side as well.
3. Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until brown and no longer pink on the inside. I have found that 20 minutes is perfect. Remove them from the oven.
4. Top with cheese if you like. I like to place sliced jalapeños under the cheese so that once it melts the cheese holds the jalapeños in place so they don't slide off. You could also do this with sautéed onions, mushrooms, or peppers.
5. Return the burgers to the oven and broil on high just until the cheese is melted.
6. Slice your bun and place the burger on the bottom half. Top with all the veggies and condiments you love!
I never thought about cooking them in the oven! This is so non-traditional but seems so much easier than cooking on stovetop!
It is SO much easier and has made cooking on burger night so much faster!
