I was first introduced to the combination of citrus with coffee on one of my husband and I’s weekly dates to a local coffee shop. It was on their summer menu, and I was skeptical at first. Orange and coffee just doesn’t seen like a very likable flavor profile but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the flavors meld and compliment each other! Ever since I have had in my mind to create something similar as a special treat during the summer months.

While oranges aren’t technically ‘in season’ until December, there is something so refreshing about creamsicles and fresh cold oranges during the hot summer days.

We enjoy iced lattes very often in our home and I love topping them with homemade cold foam. Some of our favorites are sweet cream, chocolate, strawberry, and even honey cream are all delicious! Cold foam is an easy way to have special gourmet style coffee right in the comfort of home!

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

Quick and Easy! – this cold foam can be whipped up in 5 minutes or less!

Delicious and Fresh – it tastes so fresh and has the perfect amount of sweet, with a smooth, creamy texture.

Simple – this recipe uses very basic and simple ingredients.

Ingredients

orange cream cold foam ingredients

Heavy whipping cream – you. may also use raw cream

Milk – whole milk works best. You may also use raw milk if desired.

Orange juice concentrate – you can find this in the frozen section at most grocery stores. It adds that wonderful citrus flavor but isn’t watery like orange juice so the cold foam doesn’t melt into your coffee as easily.

Cane sugar – to sweeten. I use organic can sugar. You may substitute coconut sugar or raw sugar.

Vanilla extract – use pure vanilla extract or homemade!

Salt – just a pinch!

Orange zest (optional) – freshly grated. This is totally optional but adds a ton more flavor if you choose to use it!

For an iced latte:

When making an iced latte, fill a pint jar or tall glass with ice. Pour in 5-8 oz. of milk (depending on how strong of a coffee flavor you like), pour your freshly brewed espresso in on top of the milk then top it with the cold foam.

If using cold brew coffee or pre-brewed coffee in a french press:

If you are using cold brew coffee, fill a jar about halfway with ice. Fill the jar about three quarters full with coffee, making sure to leave some room for the cold foam, and sweeten to your likeness. Add a splash of cream or half and half if desired, then top with the orange cream cold foam.

Recipe FAQs

Can I sweeten cold foam with maple syrup?

Yes you can! It will impact the flavor slightly and will have a maple taste but is still delicious!

Can I make this ahead of time?

Cold foam is best served fresh, very soon after making it and does not store well.

What is the difference between cold foam and whipped cream?

Cold foam is silky, creamy, and slowly melts into your coffee. Whipped cream on the other hand is light, airy, and thick enough to hold its shape.

Can the orange juice concentrate be used frozen

For this recipe thaw the orange concentrate either in the fridge or left out on the counter until it thaws and turns to liquid. Pour any leftover concentrate into a pint jar and store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
